Craig’s experience as a former military medic, tending to both the visible and the invisible wounds of war, brought to his attention the necessity that traditional medical interventions be supplemented with the healing mechanisms endowed by culture, community, and the arts. For Craig, healing has thus taken on a more holistic model that integrates his social science education and his nursing background to center on communal listening and the holding of space for the breadth of human expression. His poetry is grounded in this work.
